Time Travel Theory: We Can Go Forwards, Not Backwards
Time travel is a taboo subject to discuss. There are those that believe time travel isn’t possible and those that believe it is possible, much like anything else taboo or controversial. But is time travel actually possible?
Before you keep reading, I have limited knowledge of physics and the universe. I do not claim to know what I am on about, I am just throwing some theories into the air for discussion and debate. Most of what I have said below maybe factually incorrect, but I have done my best to ensure I remained coherent and close to accurate.
Paradoxes
There are numerous paradoxes relating to time travel. The one about going back in time and killing your parents, would you be born if you killed your parents and how could you go back in time in the first place if you weren’t born at all. I believe paradoxes are a logical, but incorrect way of questioning flaws in most time travel theories.
While most paradoxes pose some pretty tough situations and questions, much like all theories – there is always going to be another theory explaining how you can get around the limitations posed in all paradoxes against time travel.
A crazy thought
The crazy multiverse (multiple universes co-existing for every single possible event that could ever happen) theory has been thrown around a bit to shrug off all logical time travel paradoxes, but why has no one questioned the one flaw in most time travel theories?
If time travel is meant to be an object or mass travelling in any given direction of time (forwards and backwards) why don’t our clocks count backwards? Why is it when we think of time, we only see it as being able to go forwards, not backwards.
If conventional time always moves forward, why should time travel work any different? If time travel is real, why should it go against time as we know it and allow you to go backwards? The time we know goes forward, not back. If you keep on reading you will see physics also basically explains this as well.

How physics perceives time
In physics, time is described as a dimension much like length, width, and height. Space and time are tangled together in a sort of a four-dimensional fabric called space-time. Mathematically one can go backwards or forwards in the three spatial dimensions. But time doesn’t share this multi-directional freedom. The only way you can go is forward, the only way time can go is forward.
So if we apply the above logic to all time travel theories, it nulls them. This would explain why nobody from the future has come to warn us of impending disasters or just to visit.
How travelling forward is possible, yet impossible
If it were possible to power a ship of some kind at the speed of light, or near it for a short period of time. The pilot would have barely aged, perhaps a year or two. But the Earth would have dramatically aged by hundreds of thousands of years (it really depends on the length of time you were travelling at that speed). Although this is only a theory itself.
To power a ship like this at the speed of light, it would most likely require infinite amounts of energy to do so, and the result of moving mass at the speed of light could be cataclysmic for Earth and the entire universe as an infinite explosion could possible be created.
Although, I seriously doubt we will ever be able to go the speed of light. Even if we could go the speed of light, the human body would not be able to bear the fraction and pressure at this speed as the g’s would most likely rip us apart.
