A Web App A Week In One Hour
When you’re a developer who works full time you get into a bit of a routine (routine is sometimes good, but sometimes routine can be bad). To keep my skills refresh and keep me on my toes I’ve decided to set myself a weekly challenge: 1 hour once a week to build a web app, it doesn’t matter I’d it’s pointless or buggy, it’s a mind exercise.
To prove that it’s possible I gave my first one hour app idea a go the other night and the result after 1 hour is quite awesome, I impressed myself a little. It’s called Bad Office Music the idea is finding new music based on album artwork. Like the artwork then click it and up comes a YouTube video for the most popular video that relates to the artist and song title chosen.
The app also features a genre selector so you can get genre relevant results. I’ve got to add in a couple of more genres yet, but that is a literal 1 minute thing. The artwork and songs are courtesy of the EchoNest API and the 7 Digital bucket for the artwork. Works quite well for an hour.
Next app has something to do with Twitter, stay tuned.
