In this day and age you can never be too careful, this is why ensuring that any interaction you have with your remote servers is done using public and private keys via ssh. I have seen countless times people administering their servers using the root login with a weak password instead of public/private keys.
Important note
Your private key file should be kept safe. Under no circumstance should you ever give it out. The private key is the equivalent of the lock and the public key is the equivalent of a key to open that lock. Your generated keys should also be protected by a strong passphrase.
I am a big fan of Udemy and I have purchased about 13 courses off of the site (and counting) but sometimes I don’t have access to the internet on my laptop and watching videos (especially programming videos) on my Android phone which have been synced offline and being able to follow along isn’t easy or ideal.
I have found a clever and simple Python script that allows you to download your paid Udemy course videos so you can watch them on your Mac or PC offline without needing any kind of internet connection (except for the initial download).
Most instructions around on the web for decompiling and compiling Android APK files are for Windows PC users, but what about Mac users who have a native command line yo?
The steps are pretty much the same, except you need to do one more thing.
Requirements
– A Mac
– An internet connection
– Java SDK and JRE
– Android SDK
– Apktool
Step 1 – Install Java SDK and JRE You can download Java from this link. The Apktool will mostly use the SDK libraries, but JRE will be required for some tasks, so we install both just in case.
When it comes to software and web applications, nobody does it tougher than database administrators. You generally only see DBA’s in their mid thirties because database administration is a highly specialised position that requires a breadth of knowledge across multiple spectrums of databases and to an extent, servers.
What skills a database administrator should have Ideally a database administrator and in most cases this rings true, started off as a developer and then specialisation in database administration.
More cracked screens than a crack den full of Apple loving hipsters.
It hasn’t even been out that long and already, stories and images are emerging of countless iPhone 6’s breaking after being dropped just once. Not known for their ability to survive a drop from waist distance, the iPhone 6 appears to be shaping up as the most vulnerable of all iPhone models released so far.
During testing of the iPhone 6 for a review, Walt Mossberg actually dropped his iPhone 6 review phone and it broke the screen. While it continued to work, the glass was cracked. A scenario iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 users will be more than aware of.
The meagre 20mb limit you get on QLD Rail’s free public train wifi is consumed instantly. Worth noting before I got this limit exceeded message, the speed hit around the 10mb mark which is pretty good for free public wifi on a train.
For around $70 AUD per bottle, the Talisker 10 year old scotch whiskey might be out of the price range of some who prefer the likes of Johnny Walker or cheaper bottles of whiskey.
This 10 year matured scotch is probably in the middle spectrum of price I would say. It is a very decent single malt scotch with a touch of violet and fresh nose of coastal shrubbery.
This is one of my favourite scotches to drink for the price, it is exceptionally smooth and with a dry wood-ash aftertaste. The salty peat might be a little too much for the non-seasoned scotch drinker or scotch drinker who doesn’t like overly peaty scotches.
A new and much needed feature in iOS 8 is the ability to see which applications and background processes are using your battery. This is a feature that Android users have had for a very long time and it can help save the life of your battery considerably by allowing you to see which apps are using what percentage of your battery and allowing you to close them down.
To see which apps and background process are consuming battery, simply go to: Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage
Rumours of the iPhone 6 devices battery life being great, have been greatly exaggerated. More specifically the iPhone 6 Plus variant which sports a battery that is around similar territory to that of the Samsung Galaxy S5 boasting a size of a 2906 mAh battery in the plus variant.
The new device has reportedly already got some customers hot and bothered as the definitely bigger battery seems to just be there for the bigger screen. As Samsung users have noted, the larger screen and resolution means greater battery drain and the longer your screen is in use, the faster your battery will drain.
I love Udemy. I own about 10 different courses on there, and have completed a few. From self-defence courses to programming and design, I have bought a few of them.
Today, I received an email from Udemy:
Hi Dwayne,
From the day you joined Udemy, you’ve embodied it’s ideals. You are why I wake up just a little earlier, stay just a little later, and work a little harder. Udemy’s mission is to create a place where anyone can learn anything online, and when I see student’s like you, it feels like we may just get there.
