That is the question. While researching a potential MacBook purchase, the one question I had but could not find a definitive and up-to-date answer is: Can you play DOTA 2 realiably on a MacBook and if so, what models?
I am not a big gamer, but I do like to play the occasional game of Dota 2 where I can. I usually play on PC, but I will be travelling, so I had to get a laptop.
I purchased a MacBook Pro 13″ Retina Display with the i5 processor and 256gb PCIE drive it comes with the Iris graphics which apparently are pretty good. I almost purchased the MacBook Air 13″, but changed my mind out of want for more ram and a faster processor, not to mention, better graphics.
The answer is a resounding yes. I don’t have the graphics turned all of the way up, but I am playing on medium settings and I am definitely getting over 30fps, I am probably getting about 40fps, the game is very playable, save for the occasional crash which I believe is caused by the Steam overlay.
If you were to turn the graphics to low and mess with the resolution, you could probably squeeze about 50fps from this thing.
