Depending on what part of the world you are from you might be familiar with the concept of a Magic Eraser. In Australia we have the Chux brand Magic Erasers and in the US they have those I believe and also the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers (amongst tonnes of other competitors).
What most people don’t realise is these magical sponges are something called Melamine Foam. This foam has been used for soundproofing recording studios and things like trains for years.
That’s all they are, pieces of foam cut to size traditionally used for soundproofing. And as you are probably aware, the magic erasers you buy in the store are not only expensive but you don’t get that many of them.
What these companies don’t want you to know is that this foam while expensive in large quantities (sheets for soundproofing) is actually quite cheap to buy in smaller household friendly quantities, most commonly from online Chinese sellers.
On eBay you can actually get packs of 100 cut pieces of Melamine Foam for around $5 to $10 from China, usually with free shipping. I’ve been buying them for the better part of a year and it has saved me a lot of money. They’re great to giveaway to family and friends as well.
Instead of paying that same amount for a small packet of maybe 5 to 10 magic erasers in the supermarket, you can get hundreds of them for basically nothing. A pack of 8 Magic Erasers from Woolworths (a large Australian supermarket) will set you back $4.30 for a few more dollars you can get another 92 of them on eBay.
Tell your friends, family and colleagues to stop buying the supermarket brand Magic Erasers and just buy the foam yourself which gives you the same product and cleaning power, but at a way lower price.
The more you know.
